Up until Zachary was 6 months old, he was a virtually perfect sleeper. 7pm to 7am every night, not one middle of the night wake up. We really thought we were blessed. That all started to change when it was time to drop his third nap.

You don’t get a manual of nap schedules and sleep training when you become a parent. In fact, you get no instrutions on literally anything. You have to figure it out completely on your own. After we dropped the third nap, we had no idea we had to shift the rest of the schedule, which resulted in consistent middle of the night wake ups for our otherwise perfect sleeper.

It took us a while to figure that out, but eventually, we got back to normal again. Of course, normal can only last for so long. When Zachary was 11 months old, he decided that he no longer wanted to take his second nap. We were in denial of this for a while, but ultimately, with the push of some middle of the night wake ups, and the support from a sleep trainer, we decided it was time to drop to one nap.
